RXV S/G hesitating sometimes
Hi all,
09 RXV gas with new starter gen (SG), volt reg, & battery. When I press the pedal, solenoid clicks and it would run fine. When outside, I noticed in the cold that there is some hesitating. Solenoid will click, S/G will turn, but seems weak. It seems to get stuck on the compression stroke. But, if I hold the pedal down, it hesitates for 5 or so seconds, then turns over and starts. Vehicle has lights and radio. Radio wiring was spliced into the on/off switch. Any thoughts? Thank you all. |

Re: RXV S/G hesitating sometimes
Put it in neutral (so it doesn't run away from You, LOL) then take the seat off and try to start it outside while watching the starter pulley - it's fairly common that if the belt tension is a little low, in the colder months sometimes the starter will engage but just spin against the belt for a couple of seconds til it "Grabs". If this is the case, get a little more tension on that belt. If this ISN'T the case and it's just hesitating to spin, I would check all the frame grounds on the cart, pull them and clean them thoroughly, the starter may be trying to find an alternate ground such as the throttle cable, etc and it's just taking a bit to get enough juice to spin (which almost always ends up badly if not corrected) ... Let us know if either of these ideas worked, if not we can go from there

Re: RXV S/G hesitating sometimes
Thanks, I should have mentioned the belt being checked, they come in all the time being loose.
I checked grounds, clean and tight. Here's what I found today in the freezing cold: 12V, under a load, drops to ten on the load tester. Off the tester, when I press the pedal, batt volt drops to 8 volts, causing the hesitation. Being that it's a brand new battery, what would cause this? |

Re: RXV S/G hesitating sometimes
New starter I noticed came with a 3 inch pulley, not the 2 1/2. Gonna swap that out 1st.

Re: RXV S/G hesitating sometimes
Got the tee shirt
My 09 came with the Hitachi starter and had the same issues. Ordered the 2.5 inch pulley and that helped but wasn't 100%. The latter ones have the AMD starter and don't seem to have the same issues. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...-kawasaki.html |
