2008 EZ GO ST SPORT 2 smokes wont stay running
Have a 2008 EZ GO ST Sport, never had any trouble with it, was sitting for a while so put a new battery in it and it would run a few seconds and stop running only turning over from the battery. White smoke and unburned gas coming out of exhaust as it will run for 10 seconds and then stop after a few min of trying to start it will run again for 10 sec and stop again. Does anyone have any ideas for trouble shooting, I ran it a few months prior just fine and parked it. when running it sounds fine and is strong. I'm thinking it might be bad gas but am looking for input before I work on it THANKS!!!!

Sounds like carb float is stuck. Check crankcase oil for fuel contamination. If unburnt fuel is getting into cyliders, it will pass by the rings, into the crankcase. May cause more issues if you don't do an oil change too.

Re: 2008 EZ GO ST SPORT 2 smokes wont stay running
Checked the oil and definitely smelled gas in the oil from the dipstick. How would that cause the white smoke?
Update, engine runs better and starts right up the first try but after a few min begins to have white smoke and then loses power and cuts off. Could that be from a stuck float, bad gas, oil passing up the cylinder due to bad rings? side note, I have fare to extensive experience with 4 to 8 cylinder car and truck engines so I'm familiar with the dynamics of a combustion engine just not well versed on these small engines. Thanks a gain for any input and insight you can offer. The engine is a Robin EH352 If I did a compression check on the cylinders would low compression indicate possible oil seeping into the combustion chamber causing the smoke after a few min of running. Does this engine have a oil pump with a septor or is just a crank case with the oil splashing? |

Re: 2008 EZ GO ST SPORT 2 smokes wont stay running
White smoke, in an air cooled engine, is usually caused by unburned fuel passing the combustion chamber and entering into the exhaust piping/muffler. As the exhaust get hot, the fuel begins to smoke. If oil was causing the smoke, it would usually mean the smoke would be darker in color.
Also, check the spark from each plug using a tester. A "cold hole" will also send unburnt fuel into the exhaust. |

Thanks friend , ill check to see if the float is stuck, what else should I check for in the carb while I'm at it?
Thanks again, this EZ GO is for my father in law, he just turned 70 and has worked 300 acres his whole life. This ride will make work easier for him doing his fence line work!!!! |
