Default Ez-go Rev Limiter

I HAVE A JACOBSEN GXJ-810. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WAS MADE BY EZ-GO. IT HAS THE 295cc ROBIN TWIN CYLINDER GAS. DOES IT HAVE A REV LIMITER BUILT INTO THE IGNITOR? IT SURE SEEMS LIKE IT. IT SOUNDS LIKE MORE OF A REV LIMITER THAN FLOATING VALVES (ON, OFF, ON , OFF)

REASON BEING, I WOULD LIKE TO TOTALLY BYPASS THE GOVERNOR LOCATED ON THE REAR END, SO I MAY OPEN THE CARB UP ALL THE WAY. NOT REALLY FOR TOP SPEED, BUT FOR TAKING OFF.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

If your engine is reving that high when you take off, then you might some clutch issues. yes the ignitor has a rev limiter in it.. with exception to a 91 4 cycle cart.

Do you hit the rev limiter before you reach the carts top speed?. Has the govenror in the rear been tampered with at all? Are the clutches opeing and closing properly when you run it in neutral?

what is your top speed before it begins to turn off and on..?

You won't notice any improvement removing the limiter or governor. The reason I say this is when you press the pedal you are opening the throttle plate wide open until the governor reaches the pre-determind speed and closes the throttle plate or the limiter values are reached and it cuts the spark.
Quicker take off gaines will be from gearing changes or clutch work.

I Just Installed Drive And Driven Clutch Upgrades And Am Going To Wire The Cart To Idle Instead Of Only Starting When I Hit The Pedal.

I Wanted To Run The Carb Off The Cable Directly, But Felt Uncomfortable With It If There Was No Rev Limiter Built In. I Am Just Looking To Get The Most Out Of It, Without Bending Valves In The Process.

I Believe It Is A '91, But Haven't Had A Lot Of Luck Confirming It. It Is The Same As An Ezgo "tuff1" I Have Found. I Did Actually Have To Replace The Ignitor A Couple Months Ago. When I Bought The Part, It Was Decribed To Fit More Than Just The '91.

some 91 and 92s came with no rev limiter [very hard to find] 99% of all ez go 4 cycle engines had limiters

I have a 199? Jacobsen 810. All the parts are the same as EX GO but have Jac P/N's. I don't remember the year & it is under the tarp & covered with snow. How can I tell if I have a rev limiter or not. The cart is stock & I use it around the yard so I have never reached the rev limit RPM that I know of.

You can't visually tell, the limiter is built into the internal electronics of the ignitor.. The only way to find out is to connect a tachometer to the engine and see if it will smoothly rev past 44-4500 RPM.. If the engine begins to "stutter" at 43-4400, that's the rev limiter doing it's job...
