Correct oil And where's the filter?
Hey all, just recently purchased a 2002 TXT, with a new W/R engine, with 5 hrs on it.
I've been in the auto field most of my life but carts are a whole nother game. Dealer,.... well let's just say I wouldn't trust their service dept as far as I could throw them. So I figure who better to ask then the folks who own them. Couple of questions. #1 Is synthetic oil ok to use? #2 Detergent or non detergent? # Does it have a filter inside? Thanks, Brad |

Re: Correct oil And where's the filter?
I hear synthetic is ok to use, but we just use 10w-30. The filter is an internal filter it is located right under the drive clutch, its that little triangle plate with three bolts in it. Make sure when you change the oil, DO NOT put more that a quart and a half. If you go to the fill line with a lift kit you will have to use 2qt's, and that is to much. When they lift the carts the angle of the motor shows an untrue reading on the dipstick!

Re: Correct oil And where's the filter?
Thanks for the help guys. Like I said the Dealer's service dept was questionable. Apparantly they didn't realize about the change when the cart is lifted. Upon inspecting the cart after it was delivered I found the air filter housing and filter itself oil soaked.
And the oil level was just past the full mark on the dipstick. Lot more to that story, I'll lay it out in my intro post. Oh and by the way Glacier Girl is an airplane, a P-38 Lightning from WWII. Cool story on how it was landed on a glacier back then, retrieved a few years ago from nearly 300 feet of ice, and returned to flying condition. |

If I read correctly you a have a new engine in your cart so I would wait to use a synthetic motor oil until after the break in run time is completed. You need the friction to seat the rings....non-detergent.

They have a documentary show about the plane's recovery and restoration called Hunt for the lost squadron. it shows on the discovery channels from time to time. Well worth watching it, I was amazed at the efforts put out to recover and restore this plane. Photos of ditched squadron posted on Air show buzz |
