New stereo cuts out when accelerator depressed
New kenwood marine head unit, older typical marine speakers. (1 pr only)
Everything works great until you depress the accelerator. The speakers only shut off. There is no change in the head unit. It does not reboot and does not lose any settings. When you release the accelerator the speakers come back on. I am utilizing an ipod plugged into an aux. port. Both positive and negative wired directly to battery Cleaned ALL grounds 1000/800 cca battery tested good 12.5v resting amps 12.1 -12.3v upon depressing accelerator 14+ volts at half throttle (speakers, still, do not come on) The head unit is probably 16 guage. I cant see this being the problem due to the fact that it works perfectly at rest and the volt drop is minimal upon motor engagement maintaining >12 volts The old head unit did not do this. New one is connected the same. Everything I have read points to significant voltage drop (<12v), or bad grounds. These are all good. I have done a lot of stereos in cars, boats, party buses, etc. I have never encountered this. Any ideas |

did you find the issue?
Is the new head unit wired the same as the old one? |

Are the speakers grounded well? Just a thought

Re: New stereo cuts out when accelerator depressed
This may seem like a dumb question, but powers and grounds to speakers (speaker wires) are only going from head unit to speakers? And none of the speaker wires or power wires are run next to engine components that may induce voltage/interference to them? Nothing near alt/starter, coil, wire, plug? This is a very odd issue. Especially when it didn't happen with the old one.

Re: New stereo cuts out when accelerator depressed
Interesting issue. Does this happen with the radio as well (have you tried it?) Have you tried another cable on the iPod? Or another iPod?

Re: New stereo cuts out when accelerator depressed
I did not try it with just the radio.
I got on the phone with kenwood. Their fist line people could not figure out and it got escalated. So far no one has called me back. One weird thing that did happen is when I went to remove and reverse the wires on the speakers, as soon as i disconnected one speaker the other one immediately started to sound better????? All the stereo wiring comes up on the drivers side directly to the battery. I would have to look at the speaker wire. Caveat_ the speaker wire is very small. I cant even begin to wonder why that would be an issue when works just fine without accelerating. Im going to switch it out anyway. |

Re: New stereo cuts out when accelerator depressed
I ran power, ground, memory all directly to an EXTERNAL battery not even on the cart. I rerouted speaker wires directly to speakers. The speakers are mounted in the fiberglass shell beneath the seat. Nothing is attached to speakers or mounting screws
SAME PROBLEM. Until i remove the antenna. I still get a momentary drop of the speakers but they come back on. There is some sort of major surge via ground, strong enough to transfer thru fiberglass while the accelerator engages the starter that is effecting the speakers via speaker frame. I cleaned the grounds at the frame, starter and battery (the same big wire that connects them all. It was the first thing I did. Could the starter have some sort of ground fault and still work???? |

Yea, Thinking the head unit.
You checked and replaced wiring! You sure you don't have the +,- crossed up somewhere? |
