Starter/generator
Can the starter/generator have a ground fault issue extensive enough to feed power thru "frame/fiberglass" to the antenna that is negatively effecting the stereo....all the while still starting/generating within specs????

Re: Starter/generator
I don't think so, but just wondering why you suspect something like the starter generator is interfering with it?

Re: Starter/generator
Sorry, not sure how to link another post. It started with a stereo issue and as i gradually dissected it its leaning towards a weird ground issue
look for this. It should be on the first page. New stereo cuts out when accelerator depressed |

Re: Starter/generator
It's probably not the starter / generator usually a generator / starter will cause an oscillating noise which you will hear on the radio. A fault to the antenna would likely burn up the RF circuits. Receiver sensitivity voltage is measured in pico volts. Very very small amount of electricity. I'm sure you don't want to hear it, but you should check every connection on everything. Make your ground on the radio is at the negative post of the battery, also run a new ground from the engine to the battery. If any of your power wires run near the speaker wires, move one or the other, if you think its the antenna, try a different one, maybe you can barrow one somewhere. The starter can generate a Frequency that can interfere with radio signals, so can the motor. Now this is just to find out if you have an induced voltage on your speaker wires wrap them with aluminum foil, create a shield. It will be a lot of work, you can purchase shielded wire which can help depending on the problem. If you have a DVM, measure the voltage at the plug on the back of your radio save that number. Now rev the motor, note the difference. Now assuming you have a 12 volt system, the voltage should never be greater than +/-10% of the nominal voltage if your system is working correctly. What's even worse its usually something very simple that turns out to be the problem.

Re: Starter/generator
In your opinion what could back feed thru the antenna, which is mounted on fiberglass.

Re: Starter/generator
When you say back feed I take that as some unknown voltage through the antenna, have you measured a voltage on the antenna. The Oscillation generated by a starter / generator will sound like a whining noise, it will increase and decrease with RPM. If you have a voltage on your antenna it would have to come from where the antenna connects to the radio.

Re: Starter/generator
I realize how frustrating this can be, especially when you've checked everything. The metal case that plugs into the radio leading to the antenna has a shield connected to it which goes all the way up to the antenna. So it is possible, but very unlikely to have voltage at the antenna. This would only be able to happen if you had a bad ground on your radio.

Re: Starter/generator
I went to your other post, is the problem your radio or your Ipod? when your Ipod is plugged in your antenna isn't used. Now this would mean that your issue is common to the head unit and not the antenna. If it just happens with the Ipod then you need a new Ipod.

No. It happens with all inputs. Remove anything attached to the cart itself the problem goes away. |

Re: Starter/generator
In your other post you mentioned you hooked the head unit to a different battery both positive and negative and it still happened is that right?
