spark only when letting off accelerator
I am trying to get my 2 stoke ezgo started. I have replaced the plug and wire. I removed the plug to verify spark and i only get spark when i let off on the accelerator. I checked the resistance on the coil and everything is with specs. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: spark only when letting off accelerator
It's a 1984 with a 2 stroke robin engine. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt but never re-installed in the cart. I have cleaned most of the terminals/ connections trying to produce a spark, but discovered that I do get a spark only when backing off on the accelerator.

Check the air gap on the coil?

Re: spark only when letting off accelerator
How do i do that? I did check the resistances of the coil and they were within the specs that someone on buggies gone wild had posted.

Re: spark only when letting off accelerator
It's very hi-tech, I rotate the magnet around to the coil, slide a .017 feeler gauge under each leg of the coil, loosen the two small bolts and let the magnet suck it down. tighten and check spark.
There is also a wire that grounds the coil to kill the spark, It comes from the micro switches through the harness, unplug that wire to determine if the issue is being caused by the cart or motor. |

Re: spark only when letting off accelerator
well, I replaced the coil and got the same results. There is still a spark but only as i release the accelerator pedal almost to fully back. I cleaned the microswitch, which was somewhat corroded, but didnt make a difference. I cant let this thing beat me!! Please help.

Re: spark only when letting off accelerator
I used an automotive coil that i already had to verfiy that the coil wasnt my problem.
I appreciate your help but did not understand your instructions regarding the magnet and the coil? It was too high tech for me. Is this what you meant by checking the ignitor? |
