Default more 2 cycle problems

I have rebuilt many lawn mower engines and some racing mower engines all 4 stroke,
I have built more than 1 car racing engines that did pretty well on the track , and a lot of
car/ truck engines all 4 stroke , BUT THIS D... LITTLE 2 STROKE CART ENGINE IS
WHIPPING MY A.. .
so far I have used 2 pistons 5 sets of rings and the cylinder is still laying on my bench ,
just can't seem to get the thing to go back together , got it on once but had very bad
compression so I pulled it back down and had broken a ring ,, the first of many , ordering
another piston next week along with 3 sets of rings and will have another go at it then .
I have a 2 cycle ring squeezer don't fit the piston very well so have been useing a water
pipe clamp ( works better ). have hoaned the jug and checked all the bottom edges
with a small file to remove even the hint of any burr , just never seen so close a
tolerance on any other engine in my life , but I will make it work , probably not very
cost efficiently . I now see why so many folks don't want to work on them .
I sure hope this thing runs long enough to be worth the effort when I get it
finally finished .

Yeah Goat do you have the specs? Maybe you have an oversized piston in a stock jug? I know you know how to do the drill .... gotta be some thing that is not the right part?

Are you getting the rings to fit properly over the locating pin inside the ring groves?..

On most every 2 stroke i've worked on, the piston has a pin in the groove that holds the rings in place. If you dont have the ring in the right place you will break it or it will be hard as snot to get in the cylinder and it'll never run right. Not sure if this is you problem but I did that on the very first 2 stroke I rebuilt back in the 70s. a lesson I will never forget.

What's the answer Goat? Did you know about the pin? I didn't . Never know when you are gonna learn something around here....

just guessing here! are you sure that the piston is on rod the right way, the pins keep the rings from rotating so they don't get caught in the ex or intake ports. if the piston is 180* off the end of the ring may jump in a hole and break it off, i would spend the money and buy a ring compressor.

this style lets you unhook it when the piston is in the hole.
