Default Re-new Black Plastic

What do you use to clean up old black plastic parts, like the plastic shells on the back of the seat rests? I tried Mother's Back To Black and it looked good for a couple of days, but then slowly went back to looking dull and faded, thanks in advance.

Scotty's method definitely works, to be safe though grab a can of adhesion promoter to go under the new paint, it will make it adhere FAR better and ensure that it stays on ... We have used quite a few plastic restorers, and the best results we've had are with Turtle Wax Trim Restorer (the one that comes with a small black applicator sponge). While most of the others (IE Mothers, etc) that we've used tend to fade out, the TW seems to stay for at least the better part of a season if You apply it correctly. Wash the parts completely and dry them overnight, apply a heavy coat of the stuff and let it sit for 10-15min, then polish it in using the applicator. In 24hrs, repeat with another light coat and you should be good to go for this year. NOTE: The product contains silicon, so if You aren't happy with the results You WILL need to thoroughly wash the parts and use a quality degreaser/cleaner prior to painting or whatever doesn't fisheye and lllok like cr*p is going to be on the trails and/or ground within a week.

I know it's not to really restore but if you can catch it before it starts to fade I have found that 303 protectant works GREAT on everything, You can get it at west marine, and I found it at Auto Zone a couple weeks ago. I was turned on to it when I hade my Bonefish flats boat. It is amazing what this stuff will and can do. everything from rubber, Plexiglas, vinyl, you name it and 303 will protect it. It's called SPF 50 for your stuff. Try it and you will be using it on everything you own that's out in the sun.

PM me, I believe we have something that can not only restore it, but protect it for many years to come.

Heat gun works really nice on plastic parts, but the seat backs are thin so maybe not a good choice for them. Look up a product by rustoleum 'wipe new'

It's a fairly new product that is in its infancy. I am not associated with the company, but people in my family are. They have been testing it on everything from yacht exteriors to plastic trim pieces with amazing results. It was put on the plastic trim of an older Ford truck that was faded. It immediately brought it back to life and should last a very long time, as in years. Basically it bonds on a molecular level and protects whatever hard surface it is put on. Nothing organic will stick to it and when you put it on a surface, it makes it look brand new. Metal won't rust, grime and growth on a boat just sprays off with a hose, dried concrete sprays right off as well. We are just now trying to figure out all of the uses. It's a form of nanotech.

Here is a picture of an older boat that has a lot of sun damage. No prep work was done, the product was basically put on a small applicator sponge and wiped on. This was the result.

Rust oleum wipe new or a heat gun. Heat gun works great but bc the plastic backs are think try the wipe new.
