Spiting Back though the carb
Hi just brought the cart out and it is spiting back though the carb under load
put new carb on last summer and ran bad then. Took the new carb off and opened it up the float level was to low and the main jet was loose. Razed float and tighten the main jet ran better. To me I thank it is still lean.Has any one had to richen the main jet? As it gets warmer it runs better. Old carb was worn out around throttle shaft. |

Re: Spiting Back though the carb
Be sure that the gasket between the carb and engine is good. If it runs better if you pull out the choke knob a little bit then that will confirm that is running a little bit lean.
Is it a 2 cycle? If so, your crankshaft seals might be failing. |

Re: Spiting Back though the carb
Old mechanic trick. Go buy some cheap carb cleaner. While the engine is running lightly spray some just above (not down) the carb. If the engine speeds up then it's lean.
Next use the carb cleaner to see if there are any leaks. Spray the cleaner around the base of the carb and any other possible air leak areas. If the engine speeds up then you found an air leak. Don't really know what you mean by spitting back. To me that implies that the timing is off, and you're getting a back fire thru the carb. |

Re: Spiting Back though the carb
The only time it spits back though the carb is under load accelerating just putting around runs fine motor has been rebuilt new mains and seals good compression 120#raising float level helped will pull carb and set to factory spects just eyeballed it

Re: Spiting Back though the carb
Does that engine have an advance timing feature? If so I would look there. To me it sounds like the intake valve is still slightly open when ignition occurs during acceleration. The advance timing feature should take care of that.
Since it was rebuilt, possible the cam shaft is not correctly position. FYI, I never worked on cart engines, so please take that into account when reading my stuff. |

Re: Spiting Back though the carb
I remember yours being a 2 stroke.
If it's really blowing back through the intake, it would be a reed valve not sealing. Try some Seafoam. |

Re: Spiting Back though the carb
Thanks Cart Around That is kind of what I was thanking have run a rich mixture of seafoam in the gas. Being this is a 3pg any idea where I can get a set of read valves for it or the parts to repair mine. I have ran some very radical port timing on 2cycle motors with just piston port induction and never had this problem.
