2004 Ezgo Gas Cart won't Start.
New spark plugs. Spark confirmed. Fuel pump checked and verified it works. After sitting will run in reverse for a short time. If you flip to drive forward it quits.
Then it won't drive in reverse, and won't start. Checked spark plugs they smell like gas but are not soaked. Any suggestions? |

The first thing anybody does on a 4 stroke that doesn't want to start is check that the valves are adjusted properly. The clearance should be .004"
After that, you start eliminating other possibilities. |

I'm checking with Valves now. Where the valves are is filled with oil, is that normal?
I also noticed today that the oil was overfilled, now it's at the correct level. |

Cart Aroud. Thanks. It was the valves.
Would you please give me a little more details on the valve adjustment. When using .40 as a gap should it be difficult to push through(tight) or barely touching(looser)? |

Re: 2004 Ezgo Gas Cart won't Start.
NOT .40" !!!! That's almost 1/2" gap.
It should be .004" Just to where you feel an ever so slight of a drag when pulling the feelers gauge Note, a average human hair is. 002" thickness. So, it should be 2 hairs of a gap. |

If anyone has a picture on exactly where to insert the gap too, it would be appreciated.

Re: 2004 Ezgo Gas Cart won't Start.
You definitely want to use a feeler gauge for this job, not a spark plug gapper. Those are very different tasks. Measure at the top of the valve stem.
