Default 1986 EzGo Clutch problems

I recently purchased a 1986 ez go 3 wheeled golf cart. Fell in love with it because my grandpa had one just like it when i was a kid. Ran crappy and got to diagnosing and the piston skirt was cracked and cylinder walls were warped. Did a complete top end rebuild and motor runs and starts great now. Problem is the clutches are not wanting to fully engage. I know absolutely nothing about these kinds of clutches. It is a new belt but that is all i know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So the belt is slipping- correct? Is the clutch on the rear axle rear (the driven clutch) all the way closed so that the belt is riding right up on the outside of it?

Remove the belt and rev up the motor just a little bit above idle (not to full speed). Does the clutch on the engine begin to close up (so that the gap between the two halves gets a little narrower)?

You will be needing this manual. Section K talks about clutches.

i will try that test tonight Kyerik. I can jack up the back end where both wheels are off the ground. motor starts up and brings the drive clutch together and driven clutch apart but only for a second and then they come back to normal and the motor dogs itself down

also the driven clutch appears to not have the dust cover (is this cover necessary? bolt and retaining washers are gone as well. any idea on specs of the bolt that i can order or pick up at the store?

You don't need the dust cover. Many don't have it.

It was close to zero outside. I had my wheels off the ground, and my dust cover exploded into pieces. I only found one small piece in the garage.

Do you mean the center retaining bolt? I don't know the size. I believe it's metric. That being missing is not good.

Do you think that you could post a video for us to watch? Your description sounds like there are deeper issues.

The clutch on the engine will close up as engine rpm increases, if the engine slows down, then it will open up again. With the rear wheels jacked up, there shouldn't have been much of a load on the engine and it should have easily been able to spin the rear tires up to full speed (be sure your governor is hooked up if you do this again). Sounds like you might need to diagnose an engine issue.
