Default What's it worth to sell?

I have a 1985 Marathon Gas powered. Due to family changes recently I was looking to sell it since I don't have the time to restore it fully. It runs so/so, and have replaced the Starter generator, muffler, fuel filter, air filter, battery, and spark plug. It appears it has compression issues (80 psi checked on a COLD engine). It's in overall decent/good condition for its age. Just looking for an honest opinion on what the experts here at buggies gone wild would pay for it.

At 80 psi, it needs a set of rings at the very least.

Knowing that, I personally wouldn't give more than 500 bucks for it.

That doesn't really mean anything because we are in different areas. That might be a really low price in your area.

I also believe that there isn't an eighties Marathon out there anywhere worth more than a grand. No matter what the condition is.

I think cart around gave you a fair assessment.

Not a bad looking buggy but yes it needs some work, 80lbs isn't good. Also I don't think it's an 85, Might be within a year or so of that but the roof supports are different than my 85. Sorry but doubt you'd even get $500 around here as it is, But it definitely has potential. I love these old Ezgo's, Give it a couple hundred bucks on a top end, crank seals (at least), and upholstery and you'd really have something

Thanks for the input guys! I have no problem doing any of the work to the cart just don't really have time anymore. Plus not having a backseat option for the '85 really hinders it as well. Dabble inn I have attached a photo of the ID plate from the passenger side, that's why I thought it was an '85. Am I correct in that??

That's an 85 tag. I was under the impression that 87 was the only year with the logo on the driver's side.
There was recently an 82 on here that looked the same. Maybe somebody replaced the cowlings on both of them.

I replaced my 87 cowl with an 89. Completely different look now.

Yep like CA said above that's an 85 tag, I see another difference on the engine compared to mine. On the outside of the fan at first I thought that was an oil pump but I don't see an oil line, Maybe it's been disconnected but they didn't do that in 85. Could it be part of the Governor system? It's been so long since I took mine off maybe I don't remember how it actually worked. I see in one of your pics the engine tag, Might be fun to see what year it says. Here's what mine looks like.....

I don't remember what year they started the oil pumps but ya need to identify the year of the engine before ordering parts, It's possible the engine and/or the main tag has been changed out. Still no biggy but ya do need to know

I sold an 1988 EZGO, basically the exact same cart, last year for $1,350.00
I just did a total engine rebuild on it with a new carb. Also my seat, both bottom and back, were in really good shape.
That being said, your engine sounds like it need the top rebuilt at a minimum and the seats need redone. I would say maybe $800.00

FYI I'm in the Youngstown, Ohio area.

I tend to look for broken/dead carts to bring back to life. Yours kind of qualifies as close to dead with 80psi.

I bought this one for $400, and it just needed a set of batteries and a top.

A marathon like that would sell in the $100-250 range here.

Not trying to be a pessimistic jerk, but even here in the PNW where you can only use a cart half the year, they aren't super desireable.
