1988 jetting after uni filter
I have a 1988 EZGO. I put a uni filter on the carb instead of the restrictive air box but now I have to run it with the choke half pulled out and it backfires. I was wondering if anyone else is running this setup and what size jet they are using.

Re: 1988 jetting after uni filter
Take some torch tip cleaners, slightly enlarge the high speed jet (venturi jet) just a little at a time. Best thing to do is to take a little amount of material off, reassemble and try it. If it still needs the choke, enlarge the jet a little more. This process is trial and error, but when it is right, the cart shouldn't need the choke and the spark plug should be a tanish color like cardboard.

I've never heard of torch tip cleaners. Do you know where I could get some?

Most hardware stores have them. They are pretty much a set of micro-round files that are used to clean the tips of oxy-acetylene torches.

You can get jetting drill bits as well but they are harder to find.

Be very careful not to take too much out at a time because it will run rich and you can't add material.

Re: 1988 jetting after uni filter
I went the next size bigger with a torch tip cleaner and it was too big. The stock jet was a 97. I put a 98 in with no change. I put a 100 in and there was no backfire and I could run it without choking it. I still have to choke it every time to get it going and it cuts out every so often. I'm going to try a bigger size to see how it does. Could the misfire/cutting out be a jetting problem or should I look at something else?

Update. The jet size you need is 110. Stock is 97. Runs great now.
