Unhappy EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly

Hello all, new member here. Sorry I posted on the wrong page.
I have a 1992 EZGO gas cart with a 295 Robin 4 cyl engine. I purchased it used a couple months ago for my wife to putter around the yard doing gardening things. The cart was used in a shooting range near me for years, the lady said it needed a little choke to start during the winter. Everything was great until it just quit starting. At first I didn't have spark, replaced the coil, after that I noticed a blackened red wire coming from the starter relay to the coil. I replaced it, changed the spark plugs and got spark. But still no start. Cleaned the carb (twice), drained the fuel tank after I found part of a filler hose in the bottom. I now have spurts of gas flowing from the pump. The cart started and ran for a couple trips around the yard (2 1/2 acres). Parked it overnight then the wife tried to start in the morning, no start, just turns over. This has done it for several days now. I get home and it starts intermittently. I fool around with the spark plus, check fuel flow, it starts.
It does have some compression, haven't checked with a tester yet, it does push my finger off when it turns over in both cylinders. Any ideas?

Unhappy Re: EZGO gas cart cranks, no start intermittantly

No help yet? I have cleaned the carb a couple times, still no constant start. It sometimes starts after I tap the gas pedal about 10-15 times, then I think it is fixed, drive it some and park it for a couple hours it does the same thing again. Would it possibly be the microswitch under the pedal?
The wife is considering the pushing it into the river pretty soon.
Thanks in advance.

It is getting fuel when you push the pedal right? every time? I would change your fuel lines to the clear blue stuff to make sure, especially if you found stuff in your tank. its like $3 for 5ft at rural king (use 3/16 size and you wont have to use any hose clamps on your 1/4" fittings) and 5 foot should do everything you need for that motor. maybe install an inline filter too just to be sure. sounds like its not getting fuel if you have spark?

If you adjust the valve clearance and have gas squirting out of the pump, I'd go back to the ignition. You should have a 4 pin connector on the wires coming from the igniter. (Under the cover near the battery) If you do, it is difficult to clean and insure you have a good connection. Short wires and tight working space but I replaced the 4 pin connector with two piece insulated connectors on each wire. Did the same to the 2 pin connector from the pulser coil wires coming out of the flywheel cover near the dipstick. Also replaced the connectors at the coil. Hope this helps.

Is getting fuel, I changed all fuel lines and new pump, now new carb. Still no change. It runs good but I have to pump the gas pedal to get it to start. Have cleaned the gas cap vent. Thanks to all the suggestions.

Might be out of adjustment between when the engine tries to turn over and it gets enough gas to start?
