Default Shorter Drive Belt for 2000 EZGO Workhorse?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and have a quick question. I've tried to utilize the search function and found some info, but not an actual reference to a part number for a shorter drive belt for my 2000 EZGO Workhorse 1200LX with the 350 Robin engine.

I live on a steep hill and would value higher torque vs. higher speed.

Is a shorter belt available? Is it advisable?

Any other advise?

All input appreciated!

Thanks for your help!

I think the Workhorse and TXTs take the same belts..

27077-G02, that's your huckleberry. You already have the 28deg clutch on that cart (or should have, providing it's the original and hasn't been replaced with a cheaper 36deg).

For the first few hours, the belt is going to be grabby and likely will cause the cart to move the instant You hit the pedal - don't get worried, it will break in fairly quickly and I'm confident You will be quite happy w the results.

Granted, mine is the 295cc, but I think it will work. The thread StoveBolt listed has all the info a guy could want, most of it is addressed several times over...

Thanks a lot, guys, that's exactly what I needed. This already seems to be a great forum, with a great attitude and even greater knowledge!

I ordered the Gates Sportline 6098 belt for $22 from Amazon, with free shipping! Definitely worth a try for that!

Really appreciate it.

I put the gates 6098 on my 2000 txt and it was very short. In fact I had to cut it off when I later replaced the clutch with a 28. My second attempt at a shorter belt worked out much better.

That's why I always use the 27077-G02 - I too had issues w the Gates being another half-inch or so shorter (they *do* break in eventually but are a real pain to get on or as You mentioned, off again)

And even when I searched 27077-G02 belt on E-Bay, some states the belt is 41'' and some say its 40 3/4''

I use the factory belts in this application because they are consistent, I have tried several other "aftermarket" belts that claim to be the required 40.75 and they almost always are off by as much as 1/2", plus most of the aftermarket (Gates included) belts tend to slip more when wet from what I've experienced. Sometimes ya gotta bite the bullet and pop for the right stuff - in this case though it's only $10 or so
