Default EZGO TXT 4 Cycle Gas Clutch Issue

Hello New to the site. I have a 2001.5 EZGO TXT Gas with 295cc Robins. Rebuilt the cart after hurricane Mathew. 30# storm surge flooded the cart. All has gone well but now the front drive clutch will not move in or out so I am stuck in low speed. Tried manually freeing it with WD40 but no luck. Looking to replace or rebuild and if replacing is there a big difference in cheaper after market drive clutch vs OEM (more expensive). I am open to other options to beef the torque up as well. I lifted the cart and now have 22" tires on it. Seems the problem started after putting the tires on. Had trouble getting low end starting torque on take off. Sorry for the long post. Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome DooDad. Have you tried using a clutch puller? I'm fairly new to carts, but have never hear of one stuck onto the drive shaft so tight it won't budge... If you can get it off, take a good look at the shaft and clutch and see if you can identify your problem. While you've got it off, I would pull the outside hub off and take a look at the spring and weights, make sure everything is moving freely inside the clutch.

I have an '03 TXT with a clutch that is starting to go bad. I've looked for parts to do a rebuild, but have not had much luck. From what I read from other guys, they pretty much stopped selling the individual parts in order to force people to buy brand new.

I can't speak to what the difference is between cheap aftermarket vs OEM.

Pics of what's going on with your clutch might help others that see this post.

Let me clarify. I have yet to try and pull the clutch. The clutch is simply not moving in and out on the shaft properly to change the belt ratio. It will move in some but then will not release to the full open position with no throttle. Just looking for advice on replacing or rebuilding.

Yes, I should simply pull the clutch and examine it before moving forward with replacing or rebuilding. I saw a good post about a homemade clutch puller that I will try.

To remove my clutch, I had a bolt that would screw into the clutch. So I put a 1/4'' drive extension in the end of clutch, then screwed in the bolt, it popped right off.

Sound like you only need to take yours apart and clean and lube it.

I would definitely give it a good clean and take a look at the spring. It sounds like the spring may be bad.

So I finally pulled the clutch. No puller required. Marked it and took it apart. Real nasty inside and spring was broken. I have ordered a new 26952g01 OEM clutch and belt but I wonder if I will still need to add some torque to the cart via new drive/driven springs. I lifted the cart 6 inches and put 22 10.5 12 rims and tires on it. We use it at the beach and I was experiencing a jerky takeoff and slow takeoff in loose sand prior to figuring out the clutch was not engaging and releasing.

What springs to order is confusing. The broken drive spring installs into holes and the ones I find online do not look like it.

PS: The cart was redone after Hurricane Mathew swamped it last year. I did not tear down the clutches though.

Any advice?
