Default EZGO 1999 295 robin issues

Here we go again. I had a golf cart technician work on my kart about 2 months ago. He adjusted the valves, replaced the carb and replaced the throttle switch. When I received it, that cart ran like it did when I first bought it. But, I had to choke the engine a little every time I drove it. Which to me didn't seem correct. But it worked. Now, 2 months later the cart was harder to start and slower than before. I pulled the plugs and they are black and full of soot. Therefore I changed the plugs, now I start the cart without the choke, it takes a couple minutes, but it starts. I find I am smelling fuel. Pulled the plugs again and found the new ones fouled. Geez!!! I put another set in and decided to check to see where the air/fuel mixture screw was. It was at 2 1/2 turns out from fully in. I read that it should be 1 1/2 turns out. Soooooooooo I made the adjustment, but now I feel there's so much carbon in the engine that I need to know how to clean it out. Here's a pic of my plugs. The third set that is. The kart originally had BPR4ES in it. I tried BPR5ES and same issue (before checking the air/fuel mixture) It will start still, but it takes a while without the choke and black soot comes out the exhaust. Poor cart. What do you reccommend. Open to any ideas. Either that or I'm calling the golf repair shop and send it in. Just don't want another $500 bill. Thanks

Why did you replace the carb? Did you put new oem carb on or the Chinese knock off? The cheap ones are just that cheap

Seafoam will clean the engine.

Why do you have such an aversion to using a quick hit on the choke? Why would you crank, and crank, and crank like that?

I didn't replace the carb, the mechanic did. I have no idea why. He put the oem carb on it.

It's not an aversion to using a quick hit on the choke. Just now when I use the choke it's that much worse. Just gets harder to start every day.

A few thoughts here.

You can clean the carbon off the plugs instead of replacing every time.

Two much fuel or AIR restriction.

Possibly some trash left over from manufacturing has lodged somewhere. seems to be common on these new china carbs.

Are you sure he put an OE carb back on? Big difference! The $18 china carbs are known for messing up. But in my experience normally they starve the engine for fuel, not over fuel.
Have you tried running with no air filter to see if its any better, more air to burn the fuel.
If you run the air/fuel screw all the way in does it kill the engine? it should.

With air cleaner off, when you turn the engine off do you see smoke coming out of the carb? Sign of internal leak.

Once you get it running correctly you can use a additive to clean the carbon out.

Yes it's DEFINTITELY AN OEM carb. Cost me $249.99 for the carb alone. Yes with the air filter off it does run better.

Yes I did see smoke come out of the carb once when I shut it off. Not every other time though.

Thanks for all the info. I decided to get the local go-kart repair company for EZ go to pick it up and fix it. Really don't have the time unfortunately. My business and farm comes first this time of the year. Besides they said they will have it back to me this Wednesday. Interested to hear what they have to say about it. I'm really concerned about the previous repairs done to it. Time will tell.

OMG so sorry, but I seriously forgot to get back to you guys on the issue. Should say ISSUES. LOL

Kart runs great now. Here's some of the repairs that I remember them telling me. Replaced intake valves, carb gasket, camshaft seal etc.
