Default What year is this??

A friend just sent me these pics of a buggy he came across, He wanted to know what year it is. I researched best I could and told him I'd guess between a 74 & 79, Anyone know for sure? Wish he would have gotten a pic of the entire tag, Thanks.....

EDIT;
By the looks of the ramps on the driven clutch I wonder if it even has reverse?

That's the second time I have seen an engine like that on here. I didn't think the first one was stock, now I'm rethinking that.

It's not a 90s 3pg. It's just not. It doesn't look anything like one, and the clutches are still going side to side like a 2pg.

I don't know what a 1pg engine looks like. I faintly remember it being similar to the 2 pg, but with fewer head bolts.

I'm inclined to believe that it isn't a Fuji Robins engine at all. Maybe EZGO put something else in really early models. With all of that, I'm going to guess 70s

Looking at the hand engraved data tag, we could even guess 74, or 65.

Another EDIT: Upon further research, it may have been built April 1971. 41440x1765. The 44 after the first two digits indicate 4 wheels. A 4 x would indicate 3 wheels. I don't believe they are a sponsor, so I will PM you a link to where I found the information.

I've read 74 was the first year EZGO had a gas engine, Gee I didn't know they're was such a thing as a 1pg. Maybe that's what it is, Seems like I zero'd in on 74-79 cuz of the 'Cross or X' style rear roof supports.... And the one line in the tag has a '74', So that's my latest guess....

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, One thing for sure is it's really old lol....Probably can't get engine parts either

EDIT; Ooops I didn't see your edit CA, Yes I'll check out what ya send.. Thanks

I looked all that over and see how you came up with a 71, I thought the 5th digit was a 'G' rather then a '0'. But don't think it really matters, That place also said some of the old ones are complicated and to send an email or call. Think I'll let him do that.......Boy, I'm glad it's not mine and trying to find parts for it LOL..Thanks CA

my $.02

The top struts for the cart are an aftermarket. They had to fabricate pieces so the front struts on the top would fit.

Also where is the gas pedal? I only see the brake?

Well, I keep reading conflicting stories on the history, Now I've read the first gas engine came out in 71, But then somewhere else it was 74. I'm tending to believe 71 as that place said it was a 175cc PG1 Robbins by Fuji.......

Also on the rear roof supports I read this from http://www.golfcarcatalog.com/golf-c...museum-e-z-go/ ;

E-Z-GO 1967-79E-Z-GO X-Car

We’re not really sure exactly when this body style and top debuted. Pictured is the ‘Classic’ E-Z-GO 3 wheel golf car with the factory made 48″ long x 42″ wide ‘X’-Leg top. The top is characterized by the round steel posts, painted black, and the rear legs form an ‘X’ when viewed from the side. It could support itself from the rear ‘X’ legs only. The early models had a single post in the front and later on, as windshields became more common, 2 round posts supported the front of the top and the windshield attached to them.

This top design was common on some early Melex golf cars and I have seen it on other cars too. This top had a brittle ABS plastic insert that is no longer available.

The basic design of this car was also offered in a 4 wheel version with the same top. In 1974 a gasoline 2 cycle engine was introduced. Prior to ’74 a 36- volt electric drive train was all that was made.

E-Z-GO 1980-85E-Z-GO Marathon

In 1980 E-Z-GO had several changes to the basic car. Key among them was the ‘X’-Leg top was discontinued and the new top was lengthened to 54″ (from 48″). The top support posts went from round to 1″ square in the rear and 3/4″ square in the front. The front legs were required as the top could not hold itself up from the rear ‘X’-Leg any longer.

NOTE: The front support legs bolt onto the TOP of the front cowl. This is important if you wish to buy a windshield or rain curtain for this model.

The 4 wheel front suspension was changed to a solid tubular axle with built-in kingpins and short front to rear leaf springs. The old leaf spring that extended from wheel to wheel went away.

The seat back/bag rack support bracket was changed and it helped to support the rear top.

They still made 3 & 4 wheeled cars and the electric stayed pretty much the same. The gasoline engine changed from an internal (inside the engine) to an external Hitachi starter generator. Other changes were made to the gas engine and to the brake system.

E-Z-GO 1986-94
