Front Spring Bolts Length Question
Neb here, but have had my '96 gas TXT since 2001. When I first got it I did the quick and cheap lift with flipping the rear axle seats and used 2" square tubing to lift the frame off the front springs where they mount to the frame. For sixteen years I have dealt with the wacky steering over uneven terrain due to the tie rod angles and collapsing/cracking rear ISO bushings and housings. So I ordered an American Lift Kit 5" drop axle kit to do it right, finally.
Since it has been sixteen years I have no idea where my stock bolts are to attach the front springs to the frame. Currently it has 7/16"x5.5" GR8 bolts but those will be just a wee bit too long to clamp the springs and clamp plate to the frame. Can anyone tell me what length bolts I need to get? It looks like 1.5" would do it but I can't be sure and I don't want to tear it apart before the kit arrives. And I would prefer to install the kit in one day so taking time to run after bolts halfway through is not an option. Any help you can give is appreciated. |

Re: Front Spring Bolts Length Question
I think 1.5" will work. You can always go longer as long as its fully threaded and cut what you don't use. If you go long with a bolt with a shoulder and its too long you cant tighten the nut down fully.

Re: Front Spring Bolts Length Question
You are right toxic. The unthreaded shank is what I was worried about. Went ahead and pulled one bolt and stuck a variety of 3/8" bolts though the hole. Found a 7/16" x 1 3/4" makes perfect sense. Had to go to Fastenal to get them at $1 each but they are the right size at least.
