1982 Cart problems ready for advice

Inherited this EZGO with a camper I bought. Won't run well enough to use. Drained and replaced fuel. Fuel pump seems to work. Replaced spark plugs and have spark. However it barely runs well enough to engage the clutch. I am at the end of my ability to troubleshoot. Where to go next?

Pulled plug and it was fuel soaked and black.

I think we need a little more info..... You think you may be getting too much fuel because carb needs cleaning/rebuilding?. My 82 would only start with the choke on for a few seconds and then if I didn't get it pushed back off quickly enough it would stall and not re-start... plug would be fouled with gas and I would have to let it sit for awhile after I cleaned the plug and reinstalled. I then found that I had intermittent and weak spark and thanks to the guys here learned that I should convert to HEI which I am hoping to finish up this A M. Take a look at what Ron Man has posted about conversion if you decide you need to go that way. Definitely lots of helpful guys here with allot of good info! Repky 1 - I don't know if carb needs rebuilt/replaced. Are you saying that is the problem...dont understand your response.

Reply 2 - As far as the fuel pump, I assumed it was ok because it was pumping fuel, but if I understand the link it is saying that the issue could still be the internal workings of the pump even though fuel is flowing.

How do I decide which way to go next?

Reason I had asked you about your carb is because it sounded like maybe you were getting too much fuel.
I just read Cart Around's post from a few yrs ago and that is what (MIGHT) be going on with my 82 at the moment. I would follow this man's advice and take a look at your fuel pump.
