Default Need some wiring advice - Lights, etc.

1986 Marathon Gas

Need some wiring advice. How is the best way to go about wiring lights? Is it as simple as a junction bar wired to battery and switches? Or do you need a voltage regulator/etc?

I would love to wire up some LED lights on different switches.

Very simple to do since it's a 12 volt system.

Wire direct to your battery, or to the output side of your key switch.

If you wanted to get real fancy, you could wire a fuse box to your battery, and add accessories from there.

I wired in head lights and tail lights from the output side of the ignition switch, Then a ciggy lighter from the constant hot side (input) of the ignition switch...

That way the ciggy lighter will always work but the lights only if the ignition switch is on....I also added an inline fuse for each circuit.

Mine was fairly easy as I mounted the ignition switch hidden behind the dash and is just a simple toggle switch, I eliminated the original keyed ignition switch many years ago. Then for security the glove box doors lock with a key

Im very new here..... and the only thing that works on my cart are the lights..... but as stated in the replies above those options will work however you choose to your liking..... 12v lighting is great and LED's are a great choice.... Now the quote above also states a 12v inlet which is a genius add on.... only thing I might add is that if not putting in a fuse box, make sure to add inline fuses to any add on accessories you put on..... being that if something shorts out it will be easier to isolate and less fried wires to replace.

oops Dabble Inn,

I read over it twice but seen Dabble Inn already had inline fuses mentioned......
Pardon my oversight.... Just use my reply as confirmation....

Oooops, I noticed the pics I posted earlier were before I had it all done, so here's what it looks like today with the lighter and lighted rocker switch for the lights installed. Also pics of the head and tail lights I chose, those little bullet style headlights were simple to install by using the windshield frame mounting bolt and are plenty bright....

Yes the ciggy lighter comes in very handy, I use it for a lighter but also to charge my phone and Blueteeth speaker when needed.....

EDIT:
No problem PaulyMac, It's good to over stress the safety factor of using a fuse which ever method you choose to put one in. My favorite way would be like CA said by adding a fuse block, But for only 2 circuits I opted for the easier method of in-line fuses
