Default 96 2 stroke or 4 stroke

I'm looking at a cart to buy and don't know if a 96 is a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? I'm thinking 4 stroke. Also from the pictures I've seen this cart has the black plastic across the hood, is that a steel body? Thanks!

Should be a plastic body.

93-down had a "squared off" steel body and weren't made in a 4-stroke config, 94 and 95 were a crossover, they had both the Medalist (steel body with plastic cowl cap) and the TXT (plastic body front and rear, no plastic cap). Also, the easiest way to tell which engine is in there (as it sounds like there is some discrepancy on the year) is check spark plugs - if there's one its a 2-stroke, if there's 2 it's a 4-stroke.

If it has a metal body and the 4-stroke (2cyl) it's a Medalist. Metal Body and single-cyl motor, it's a Marathon. Plastic body and 2cyl it's a TXT.

BrewCity, you're all over it! It's a 96 Medalist with a steel body and a 4 stroke. I ended up buying it and can't wait to use it out in the woods. Thanks all for the help!

Cool - keep in mind that if You ever want to swap to the newer-style TXT body it's a simple procedure, a lot of guys do that w the Medalists to update the look as well as those metal bodies tend to rot out with time and it's a LOT easier just to replace them.
