Diagnosing dry plug, barely idling cart
Night before last it was running well, 23mph or so with people on it. Late 90's Marathon with an old Vegas Carts kit motor. Next day it drove around the block, but had a tough time idling, and wouldn't go past 17mph. Go home, go out again and it won't idle. Started, but super bad idle, and stalling upon accelerator pedal. I figured some of the bad fuel had stuff that made it past the filter, and I cleaned the carb. Didn't help, but I did notice that a gasket was bad. I used the intake gasket and put it between the fuel pump plate and the carb. No gasket on intake side to air filter. Cart didn't run any different. I checked the fuel pump, and it was putting fuel into the fuel bowl. I checked the spark plug, and it was dry. What is the next step? Just ordering a new carb to start? Thanks guys.

I’m not familiar with that engine. Is it a two-stroke or four stroke?

yea i think we need some more info on the motor, sounds like it could be valve issues? try a compression test on your motor and see if you have low compression.
odds are its not fuel issues being you cleaned the carb, unless the carb is just completely trashed or you missed some dirt inside a jet, but id bet thats not it. |

The engine is a 4 stroke, should be a 440cc motor. I'll get a set of gauges and check the valves. Just hard to believe something like valves would have gone that fast. And I don't think it would explain a dry plug with no fuel, right?

If push rod bends or pops out of rocker arm on intake vavle it won't open thus no fuel will enter giving you a dry plug

Personally I'd post this in the "Big Block Clone" section - You'll get a lot fewer questions and speculation there, that section is designed around the VC motors and clones specifically (just my $0.02)

Found it. Sent an email to Vegas to see if they have that plate in stock. I found the other parts I think, but I can't seem to find the plate.
