Default Bought a project, Carts are new to me

I've been wanting a golf cart and come across this for hopefully a cheap enough price. It will be a project and I will have many questions on it to get it going. I am new to anything to do with golf carts. Very mechanically inclined and want to get this going. First questions are what year is this? when buying parts what do i use to look them up as far as make and model, the ezgo site wasn't very helpful. They do not recognize the serial number on their website. Also is this the right carb on it? First thing i need to get ordered is a accelerator cable. Thank you to all who will help with this. I have been doing a lot of reading on here and love all of the information posted.

I think that somebody installed an 88 muffler on an 83.

This manual will help. Order parts for a 2-pg engine. That is the right carb.

If you order a carb for a 1988, it will be a BV-24. Since you already have the exhaust, it should take you from 9 to 11 horsepower.

thank you Cart Around for that pdf, i saved it and will definately put it to use. I am thinking it will need a new carb on it, the throttle stem seems to have a lot of play in it, also i am not even sure it is adjusted right. The previous owner had everthing torn apart. I need to order an accelerator cable for it. This info will help with that.

Looks to me that the engine was built in 82 for an 83 installation. All of those engines were the same except the 88 had the bigger carb, and different muffler.

Tell us what the cart is doing, and not doing. We will point you in the right direction.

I'm going to bed until 8:30.

Why do you need a new carb? Have you taken the present one apart and checked it? Sometimes a throttle shaft and bushings is all they need.

so far i have installed a new air filter, the oil mixing pump is unhooked, the previous owner has mixed gas in the tank. "not sure how old it is". I am going to pull the tank and get it cleaned out with fresh gas put in. I have pulled and cleaned the carb. not sure where the adjustment screw needs to be for setting the carb though. None of the cables are currently hooked up on the carb. I can only get it to fire off with the throttle wide open and choke closed, then i can lower the throttle and slightly open the choke, play with it like that some and it will rev up but will go dead and hard to get started back. The over flow tube on the carb is pouring some gas out of it as it is trying to run. guessing the needle isnt closing off right.

I havent looked and the bushings and shaft that close. I thought i seen somewhere if the throttle shaft was bad it had to be replaced. Just got this last weekend and today was the first i have had a chance to mess with it any and making a list of everything i need to do. The previous owner has it in a mess.

Old school trick: buy some cheap carb cleaner, with the beast running spray the cleaner around the shaft. If it speeds up you got an air leak. Do the same thing around the base of the carb to make sure the gasket is doing it's thing.
