Default Odd gap in the axle? What is this thing?

I have an 05 txt. I noticed an oil drip from the axle where it mounts to the differential. When I pulled the axle off I notice there is a little "keyhole" there that gives no sense that its a flaw or a break. It really looks like it is milled into the differential. If you look at teh picture you'll notice another "keyhole" milled into the axle bearing race housing directly next to the the one i'm pointing at. Why is this? I'm perplexed.

My guess, and it's only a guess is that it's a weep hole to let you know when the seal is leaking.

you sir are the winner !!!!

It is indeed a weep hole to allow for oil to drip out as opposed to blowing by the and pushing into the brakes.

New 10 dollar seal and we're all set !!
