Possible blown motor
My wife and daughter were running the cart last evening and she said it made a squealing noise lost power and shut off. I pulled the dipstick and it's dry so I'm guessing seized motor. has anybody had any luck pouring oil in the cylinders and getting it to free up or should I just start looking to rebuild? I have a 2002 ezgo txt with the 295cc robin motor. Any suggestions would be appreciate. Thanks in advanced

Re: Possible blown motor
What am I roughly looking at for a rebuild? Should I look at having the cylinders bored?

Re: Possible blown motor
If you can't turn the clutch it probably seized one of the connecting rods to the crank. No bueno, Depends on how much of the work you will do yourself but as an option there is a company called CTRebuilds in Appling GA that I believe can rebuild it for roughly $700 + shipping. Brew will probably see this and comment

Re: Possible blown motor
Whenever I rebuild a motor I always bore it out and put oversized Pistons in them if you're going through all the work may as well do it right in my opinion I've never dealt with ct rebuilds but there is a lot of positive feedback on them on this site if you're capable of doing it yourself it's still going to cost about the same as they charge so it boils down to what you want to do

Re: Possible blown motor
If you are going to have it rebuilt I would ask lots of questions!!
Some rebuilder only replace what broken!! IE one rod! So you end up with not a total rebuild and some wore parts to brake later! I rebuilt my 295 my self. complete package, 2 rods, 2 pistons, rings, valves, valves seals and gaskets around $320 I also bought the 5 bearings not included in rebuild kit $50 Air filter, plugs, fuel filter, oil filter and oil $75 I spent $450 on parts but the engine is all new, Almost! The rebuilder don't do all that and get $600-700 normal hand tools, hone and a torque wrench is all that's needed, and some mechanical knowledge |

Re: Possible blown motor
I’m planning on tearing it down this weekend. My buddy helping me his a diesel mechanic by trade so I’m sure we can handle the rebuild. What is the time frame for something like this? Tear down will be one day and rebuild will be on another

Re: Possible blown motor
That will depend on what you find when you get it apart.
If the rod seized to the crank you may need some time just to polish the crank. Doing a something you never done before all ways takes longer the first time. I suspect it will take longer then a day to put it back together. After you do it once 2 guys could do it in a few hr's |

Re: Possible blown motor
Make sure you download the engine rebuild manual in the stickies section. There are a few things you may not know to do that are unique to this engine. One for certain is how to prime the oil pump.
Good luck on your rebuild. Good advice here. |
