98 EZGO backfire out carb

I have a 98 ezgo with the 295 robin, I can not get it to run, not even off starter fluid, just back fires out the exhaust and carb, have valves at .004 brand new carb, the timing belt snapped and I replaced it with the marks on the gears pointing to the marks on the block so it should be timed correctly, brand new ignitor and coil. Ran when it was parked. What else could it be?

The timing is wrong. You do not use the mark on the crank gear you use the key way in line with the mark on the block. Hope this helps.

Should my coil be sparking both plugs at the same time?

Yes, it is a "wasted spark" system & fires both at once.
Are you getting consistent spark at all? There is a pulsar coil (magnetic pickup) off the flywheel, but if you are getting consistent spark that's not going to be your problem.

Have you checked compression? I'm pretty sure those are in interference engine & can bend valves.

Yes compression is still good, someone told me that they weren’t interference engines, getting consistant spark
