Default 350 with a 295 head? anyone have experence with one

Ok I have a 295 rebuilt but need a little more power for some very long hills here in Georgia.
Cart does fine on short hills, But we have one hill that's very steep and about 1/4 mile long that makes me think we are going too have to get out and PUSH!

I here the 350 block with a 295 head makes more power ( 15-18HP )?

I have the chance to buy a 1998 350 that needs rebuilt with clutch, carb, air box and stock muffler for $250. Think I would have $700-800 in it when done.

Don't want to do the big block thing, too many issues and noise factor.

Has anyone built, have or had one of these engine's? Was there a noticeable difference in the pulling power?

We had one done by a professional motor shop. Complete rebuild and it had heat and carberation issues. Eventually it died after a short life. A better plan might be to just mill the head a little bit and moderately increase compression. We did this to a Club Car Flathead motor with an overbore piston and it ran great with lots of pull. Good Luck

Thanks Scottyb,

Any ideas on how much could be milled without creating issues on the 350?

I didn't think about the increase in heat when you raise the compression!

Did it die from the heat? Piston to cylinder gulding? or rod to crank?

Contact this guy. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/members/brewcitymusic/

You could try the shorter belt. It helps with the smaller motor but I am a little surprised that yours doesn’t pull that well. Last 295 I had was lifted with 22s and hauling 3 good size people would still climb just about anything.

Short belt is 27077-g02 or a cheap version is stens 265041 or Dayco hp2013

Thanks, I think it was brewcitymusic post where I seen the deal with 350 with 295 head.

I did get the shorter belt this winter and have not tried the hill yet. my next step was going to be the 36 degree rear clutch. But I ran across this 350 on CL, and got me thinking, You know sat. morning on CL usually doesn't end well

Its not angle that gets me. This thing will pull a very steep short hill like its not there! Its how long the hill is. Now that is with 3 adults 2 kids, a large cooler and other must be necessary things, (1/2 the house!) to spend the day at the pool. I'm on 22'' also

I think the motor just beat the crap out of itself. Any way we took 0.010 off the flat head and it made a difference. Start light and you can cut more - Also we didn't have valve clearance to worry about. So do your home work

Get the 350 and rebuild it. You can use the same short belt you have now. The 295 is 9hp. The 350 is 11hp. If you don't want to do a clone swap the stock rebuilt 350 with short belt will do fine. That is over 20% increase in power over the 295. Make sure you use a 350 carb or install a 350 main jet in your carb. That is the only difference in the two.

Thanks Rooster,

I think I may do just that, I may mill the head a little also. Need to do some more checking on that.

I have clayed up pistons before to check valve clearance, but as Scottyb brought up the increase in heat with increased compression, I need to check out.

I have built several 350cc robin engines with the 295 head and had no problems whatsoever. If you have the 350 carb, even better, it saves messing with the jet sizes as it will run fine. The 295 carbs runs pretty good as is anyway, so jetting that up will help. you will see an immediate increase in power with this set up and if i can find it i will show you a video of one of ours with no other mods such as belt size ,gearing or clutch modding. Just 25 inch tyres.
