Default F-n-R cable install on 2011 sport 2+2 gas

hello,I just purchased a new shift cable for my golf cart. it is different than the old one,but the dealer assures me that it is the correct cable,#602891.the problem is the new cable has a metal tube on the rear part of the cable with a 90 degree bend. if I attach both ends it appears to be too long. I don't know if it needs to be routed under the gas tank, over it, or where it is supposed to lay. any help would be greatly appreciated. vic
