Default First Project Cart (94' w/ pics)

Hey everybody! Obviously I am new to the forum, and I do not have the requisite knowledge to answer other folks questions yet, so I realize I will be taking more than giving. I am about to embark on a mission to revitalize my father's golf cart.

Little background: my dad purchased this cart used from a buddy around 2000-2001. It ran great until he decided to start hunting off it. In 2006, I took it to a shop and they basically overhauled it. From then on, it was used infrequently around the farm and housed in the barn. I know dad replaced a few things over the years like the starter and maybe igniter? Anyway, I pulled it out of the barn yesterday and I am trying to get it back in shape for the golf course.

I plan on updating this post as I go along. I am holding off my questions until I get deeper into the issues in an effort to limit the newbie complex.

Hopefully I can nail down the questions after I do my own research and trial and error. Undoubtedly I will be needing help, but I want to do my part before I inundate this post with questions.

Feel free to offer any information I may need based on the pics. From what I can tell, it is a 94' model (however, dad said the manufacturer told him this cart was electric, so maybe the body has been swapped?) and I am not sure on the engine size. It does turn over, but sputters out periodically, meaning it will not move on its own power more than a few feet at a time, but I think the motor still has sufficient pressure, I just need to fix a fuel delivery issue hopefully. I also need a dipstick if anybody knows which one to order for this motor.

Once I get the motor situated, I need to replace the roof and find a cart bag bracket, new tires, etc...

Thanks for reading the long post. Please let me know if there is anything I can do on my own to help you guys answer any future questions!

-Ed

Should have a tag on the motor marked eh295 or eh352 meaning 295cc or 350cc. I don't think ezgo started using them cowls until 2000 and looks like it had a cargo box on it by looks of the brackets. If someone changed it from electric to gas it wasn't an easy task or cheap. There is a wealth of information here and sure your questions can be answered. Welcome aboard.

BTW, what's a golf course?

Thanks for the help! I'll clean the motor off and see if I can find the size. Yes, it had a cargo box installed in 2006. I had to take it off yesterday so the cart and ranger would fit on the trailer together. I think the cargo box frame is holding up the roof frame, so I am not sure how to install the bag bracket after taking off the box bracket without some other bracket I have not yet found on the interwebz. If that makes sense haha.

It is a 295. Changed battery terminals, and fuel filter. Got fuel thru filter, carb, and to the plugs. Still only firing up briefly. Found some oil in air box, gonna drain and refill to 1.5 quarts tomorrow. And a golf course is where I go to drink and look for things in the woods when it’s not hunting season haha

Its definitely a 94 gas Medalist cart with a pre MCI 295cc robin engine. Look after that engine they are superb if well maintained. Much smoother and quieter than any other buggy gas engine and extremely reliable. Intermittent firing is probably down to a poor connection in the wiring for the ignition circuit, most likely the plug and socket for the coil. The body has been changed for a later type and the front cowl is from a slightly different model. The seat brackets you require will be from a TXT model EZGO to suit and match the body style. I cannot help you source those parts as i am in the UK. Shame as i have several here in my lockup.

If you need help at any time feel free to PM me but remember the time zone is 6/7 hours away from yours and you may not get a reply as fast as you would like LOL.
There are loads of people here who can help you too. You should be able to find manuals etc in the |Tech section to help you identify parts etc, you should also find an engine tech manual for repair and rebuild too.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome aboard the crazy train Ed!

I thought a golf course was where you hit that little ball in the woods and drank beer waiting on it to return....

I located a compression gauge so I am going to test it tomorrow before I get too deep into this thing. And thanks 1970, I am glad to be here!
