Hitch advice: do I need a welder?
I ordered a universal hitch for my ‘08 ezgo gas cart with backseat. I guess the one I ordered designed to attach underneath to backseat, not to the frame. I’m returning it bc I don’t see how that can securely haul anything.
Anyone have any recs as to what kind of tow hitch I should look for or do I need a welder? I’ll try to upload pics later, but looking to secure to frame of cart. Thx! |

what do you want to put on the back? how much tow weight, touge weight? our answer to these at work was "i dont know". so we over built. but you may be able to get by without welding everything.

Re: Hitch advice: do I need a welder?
My answer is also “I don’t know” lol
I mainly want a hitch and something in the front to tow others out of a jam or to get myself out of a jam. I currently have nothing to hook a strap up to which kind of freaks me out given the places I go with it. Ideally, I need to drill into the frame, correct? |

the frame hitch in the pic has holes that line up with frame holes. if i remeber right you need to drill the plastic, but you may have already for the rear seat . the othere bar is a hitch extention, 18 or 24 inch i think

Re: Hitch advice: do I need a welder?
I made my hitch myself, using a 5" x 24" (approx?) x 1/4" steel plate and a piece of scrap hitch receiver my friends had laying around. Drilled all my own holes, welded it all together, and bolted directly to the frame underneath the bag holder in the pre-drilled holes using grade 8 nuts and bolts.
I've moved our empty 12' utility trailer around the yard with no problem, and towed many mini mod pulling tractors that weigh 1800 lbs with no problem. After pulling season ended, I noticed a slight bend in the plate so I added two more bolts closer to the receiver for some extra support. Cost me $30 and a day to make it. Plus some black paint we had laying around. |

Re: Hitch advice: do I need a welder?
I have a receiver on my rear seat steps seems fine towing but when i got winched out on a ditch it folded the frame of the back seat right up. I thought i bent it and i did a little but i jumped on the step ind it pretty much just went back to shape. I actually thought about welding the whole frame solid.
