Default Engine runs rich

1999 ezgo txt. Hard to start, pressing the pedal to the floor seems to flood the cylinders and plugs. I have to barely touch the pedal without any choke. Once started I notice black soot on the garage floor from the carts exhaust pipe. The carb is brand new 4 months ago. Is there a way to adjust the carb to lean out the mixture? Please advise. Any other remedy you guys can think of? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The first thing you have to do when buying one of these China carb's is take it completely apart soak it in carb. cleaner then blow it out with compressed air!

These carbs are a hit or miss ( junk )

But what can you get these days for $20

First of all, why did you replace the carb, and do you still have the old original one.

Gearheads advice is solid. Do it.

And no, there is basically no adjustment apart from setting float height.

Regarding backfiring, you need to make sure the carb is fully closed when the pedal is up.
If you listen carefully as you slowly push down on the pedal you will hear the pedal switch click. the carb must be set to start opening AFTER you hear the click, not before.

Fair enough. The aftermarket carb is most likely your main issue unless your inlet valves are sunk in the head, or you have worn rings etc.

Next step should be a compression test as this will show up any major issues with valves and rings/bore.
difficult starting and burning excess fuel/oil tells me there is an underlying issue.
