Default Is this a 78 model or older? Also fuel issues.

So I got this up and running last night.
Took it around the block fine but when I stopped and put it in reverse it acted sluggish and wouldn’t rev up until I choked it. It looked like it was getting too much fuel. It has a new carburetor on it.
I’m not sure if I need to adjust the carb or look elsewhere for the over fueling problem

The last two numbers of the manufacture's code is the year it's build unless it from 76-78 then it's the first two numbers. I'd say your's is a '78.

I thought as much. I was confused due to the 1pg motor.
Would I be able to put in a 2 or 3pg motor?

If you had to get it to run with the choke that usually means it's running lean I'd look into replacing crank seals

It actually seem to be quite the opposite of running lean. The carburetor seem to spewing fuel out the overflow tube

If it's coming out the overflow it's probably a stuck or miss adjusted float

I found this tidbit of info from another thread from member Cart Around:

"From 1971 to 1975 E-Z-GO used a 175cc 2-cycle 17-CES 1PG Robin engine. This engine had four head bolts. It was painted blue. It had an internal starter generator. In 1976 they came out with the model EC25-DS 244c Robin engine made by Fuji Heavy Industries. This engine had six head bolts. It was painted black. It still had an internal starter/generator that was kept until mid 1980. In mid 1980 they came out with a Hitachi brand external starter/generator with modifications to the engine and clutch. This model EC25-2PG engine was used until 1988. In 1981 they came out with electronic ignition. 1983 was a single year model easily identified by having the muffler lying down behind the engine rather than standing up. In 1984 they went back to the stand up muffler near the drivers side of the cart."

So you have a 2pg apparently. Also wait until Cart Around gets on and he will give you solid advice on your cart.

That is what I am thinking but I am new to doing anything with this style of smaller 2 stroke engines and carburetor.

I owned a 1980 3 wheel cart and it took a total crap in me so I’m hoping that this one is a little more reliable.

It's a 2pg, but you still have to be careful with the differences. The internal starter/ generator give it a different front bearing, and seal.

It has a 4 wire voltage regulator that has no replacement. It also has points, and a condenser that are not as easy to adjust as the electronic ignitions.

I would take the carburetor apart to see if the lower diaphragm ripped, and then go from there. Maybe even a clogged muffler. Exhaust all of your options before ripping the engine apart.

I'm almost positive that other 2pg engines would have the same mounts, so they would fit. You would have to change some wiring for the newer ignitions.

A 3pg will not fit. The crankshaft mounts sideways, and the clutches go front to back.

You should also probably take that new carburetor apart, and give it a good cleaning.
