Ezgo 295 problem.
Hi I'm working on a 97 ezgo txt. The motor was smoking. I installed a diffrent 295cc engine I had rebuilt previously. I swapped the pulser from the existing engine. My problem is this engine does not want to run. Good Spark on both cylinders. Compression 140 per cyl. Swapped carbs. I don't think fuel delivery is the issue at all. I'm thinking timing. I checked timing and it looks spot on. It will barely idle but wont come up in rpms. Occasionally throws a flame out of the carb.do the flywheels differ from model to model?I also checked the harmonic balancer to ensure it was installed properly in time with the crankshaft and it indeed is. Stumped. Thank in advance.

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
I have read that it's possible could os bad? The reason that I have not entertained this is because I have good Spark on both plugs.maybe theRe not firing at the correct time?

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
Is this engine you just installed a Pre-MCI engine or MCI ?
MCI engines have the cylinder head made to exhaust manifold, not bolted on like the Pre-MCI's/ |

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
Think your correct, Fire in carb. would be spark timing. Advanced
So you used a different flywheel then what came with the engine? You may have to get the part number off that flywheel and see. you could look up the flywheel part number for a pre and post MCI and see if they are the same. One other thing, probably not related to this issue. If that's a rebuilt engine, 140 lbs compression is not very good. You may want the run the valves. Did this engine run good in a different cart? |

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
It is I believe a pre Mci. The dip stick is on the side cover were before it was located in the Block. I would agree about compression but this is a brand new bore should pick up some psi. in ring seat? Would a swap of the flywheels fix the timing issue? Thanks again guys all good comments.

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
This manifold bolts to the head separate from the exhaust on both models.

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
I am not sure I understand what you mean when you say low idle ? Pedal start engines don't idle. Key start carts do. Can you explain more on this. Tom.

Re: Ezgo 295 problem.
Basically if the throttle is just cracked it will run. Very low rpm. As soon as you advance more throttle it will spit sputter and blow a flame out of the intake. It does rUn at extremly low throttle not just turn over. It just will not run at all if I advance the throttle.
