1997 TXT Rebuild
Hello all, I've been lurking on this forum for a while now and decided to start a thread on a rebuild I'm attempting. Mostly just plan to dump some pics on here, track the progress, answer a few questions, and ask a whole lot more.
Back story, my parents bought this cart soon after I graduated high school. They cruised around their property and used the dump bed alot. We used to enjoy cruising the property and pond and my kids loved to take rides in it as well. My parents are nearing retirement and downsized and moved back in town. They were going to sell the cart a couple hundred bucks but I said "no way!! You're going to give it to me and I'll arrange hauling from Ohio to NC" We had been told a few years back the Robin 29C needed rebuilt as it was blowing smoke and down on power. You'll see below that we tore into the engine but didn't do much other clean up a few things and reassemble it. When I got it the oil was half oil half gas and the air filter was full of oil so a rebuild is in my future, probably just send it in as a core and buy a rebuilt motor. Anyways the pics below show the progress to date, currently I'm priming and painting the frame after it was roughly sandblasted. Future plans are a lift, tires/rims, paint or wrap the plastic body, install a back seat, radio/speakers, head/tail lights, etc. |

That's Richard Petty's number :)
Why didn't you just take her apart lol I will follow your work to see how you progress. You seem to have mechanic skills so go to it :) Leave the rear end as is. Never seen one go bad. Check the oil and clean it up. Look forward to seeing your progress. Tom :) |

Re: 1997 TXT Rebuild
[QUOTE=Ndawg12;1532534]I probably should have but we'll see how she runs. Is intake valves and rings the only really necessary items for a rebuild? I looked up a kit for like $400 and it had 100's of parts, that's when I decided that if needed I'd just spend an extra $200 and get one that's already been rebuilt.
I can pretty much guarantee you the $600 rebuild, they only replace the parts that have to be replaced, rings and intake valves!! There is know way they could make any money spending $400 for parts then labor and charging only $600. Yes, if the other parts look good, just hone the cylinders, new rings and intake valves. Not much money at all. The gaskets and seals just to put it back together will cost more and you have gained nothing! |

Re: 1997 TXT Rebuild
More pics, progress is slow but steady. Painting/protecting all the bits and pieces is time consuming!! Can anyone tell me how to link pics from imgur so that they're not so big and resize the screen? I'm sure it's annoying and I apologize for my ignorance!!

Nice build!!
As far as resizing your photos, I do the resizing on my MAC laptop, then I upload 'em to IMUR. |

Thanks Dave!! I removed my rear springs yesterday. They are literally bowed up in the middle where they attach to the axle, I assume that means they're worn out.... I've got some actual automotive shocks that I plan to use so my question is should I get the HD leafs (which is all I can find) or keep looking for a set of the OEM's? |
