89 EZ Go
I recently did a rebuild on 89 Robin engine, changed crank bearings and seals and honed the head and put a new standard piston and new rings all new gaskets and when I got it back together it started right up and ran for awhile and then it made a popping sound and quit. I got it to run on ether, but it will not start with out. It sounds like it wants to start with choke pulled but will not run I also put a new fuel pump on it

Re: 89 EZ Go
Sounds like it popped a seal. Probably the fan side.

Don't know about the popping sound but if it runs on ether I would suspect it's not getting fuel, maybe a stuck needle valve in the carburetor? |

Re: 89 EZ Go
I'd pull the fuel line at the carb and crank it over to see if it's pumping an adequate amount, If it popped a crank seal it will not.
Did you ever do a compression test on the new top end work? BTW, You don't hone the head you hone the cylinder. But I'm sure you meant to say that |

Yes, I meant to say cylinder I didn’t do a compression test yet, but plan to this weekend I fear that crankseal is blown

Re: 89 EZ Go
A crank seal won't have any affect on the compression. The best way to tell is to see if the fuel pump is putting out. It operates off of the pulse pressure from the bottom end. If the seal is popped, there will be no pulse.
