94 Marathon EZGO gas, Fuel smell

I have a fuel smell and an occasional back fire. Any thoughts?

sounds like crap in the carb, makes the float stick and the gas runs out the over flow. start with cleaning the carb.

the backfiring could be from the carb also, its always best to set the valves to!

Thank you, last year when we go the cart, someone messed with something to make it go alittle faster. That is when the trouble started. Thay are not around and I do not know what the did or turned.
