Piston Port
I have an 86 ezgo and I blew the head gasket. When I disassembled the engine the port in the piston was facing the exhaust side. As far as I know this engine has never been rebuilt. The cart has been running since I bought it off a friend 3 years ago.
Just want to verify that the port should be facing the carburetor side. Going to change piston, rings and crank seals |

Re: Piston Port
Yes an ezgo 2 stroke engine. The port in the piston faces the carb port. It will run with the port facing the exhaust, but it will have no power

Re: Piston Port
Strange. Ran for years like that.
It must have been rebuilt at some point. |

Re: Piston Port
Wow, You're going to really like the way it'll run with it in the right way lol......
Since it blew the head gasket I would plane the head to make sure it's flat |

Re: Piston Port
It shouldn’t run at all with the port facing the exhaust...

Piston Port
Mine didn’t run. No need to ask how I know.

Makes sense on the power issue as I would have difficulties getting to move from a stop on a steep incline Thanks for the guys!!! |

Re: Piston Port
So I am looking to order parts for the rebuild and I'm concerned with finding the piston in backwards that someone has rebuilt this before.
Without a dial bore gauge, how can I tell if the cylinder was bored before? Are the pistons marked like they would be with a car engine, if they are oversized? Thanks. |
