Gas Cap Update
Well, unfortunately my idea about the gas cap venting was not the problem with my 96 EZ-Go Medalist. I was very lucky that the buggy made it home on its own power the other day!
I started it up with the cap off and drove around my driveway for about 5 minutes when the engine died. This time, it will not start back up, just turns over. Checked to see if it is getting gas by pulling the outgoing fuel line on the fuel pump and it is working properly. Removed spark plugs and they were wet but absolutely no spark on either cylinder. I had on hand a new set of spark plugs and set the gaps and installed. Still no spark. My first thoughts are to buy and replace the coil where the plug wires join. New wires as well. After reading many past threads here with related issues, I'm not at all certain that the coil and wires will fix my dead cart. The other problem I have is not knowing how to tell the difference between the 295cc engine and the 350cc that was used on this EZ-Go model? I presumed it was the 295 but when I went to check on some of the parts that came with the machine, the new carburetor that had been installed by previous owner had 350 on the box. Any help for this newby will sure be appreciated! |

Re: Gas Cap Update
stamped on the engine will be eh29 for a 295 or eh35 for the 350.
The difference in the carb's may just be the jet size. not for sure on that. |

Re: Gas Cap Update
You really need to check out some of the older threads on the EZGO ignition testing. Pulsar coil, into the ignitor module, into the ignition coil, micro switches and all the wiring in between. There's a lot there and it can get really expensive to trial and error your way through.

Re: Gas Cap Update
From previous research on hopping up the pre-MCI engines I found that the carbs are the same for both 295 and 350. Only the main jet is different. I don't recall what number for the 350 vs 295 but they are readily available. If you have a 350 carb on a 295 the only likely ill effect would be running a bit rich at rpms above about 1/4 throttle. Your plugs' color will tell you if the engine likes the carb jetting.
