90 3pg won't rev up
My 90 Ezgo 2 cycle will run but won't rev up. I have put new crank seals in, new fuel pump, new carb, plug, pulser coil, 128 to 1 gas oil. Its pumping gas to carb, it has nice blue spark gapped at .030 then .025. After its running, choking it makes it slow down further. Timing is being adjusted, was off 2, now 6 ret. Pain in but pulling flywheel to set. Will finish setting timing today. Is carb out of whack? Btw it ran the same with old carb.

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
Sure it's running at all or just the starter turning it? is the exhaust getting hot?

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
Sorry but I have to ask the obvious. Is the throttle linkage working?

yes gas is exploding in cylinder, I had the muffler off and you can really tell then. And throttle is wide open. Other than timing , float level, I'm wondering about the reeds.

Have you ever seen it run normal, or did you get it this way?

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
Have you tried taking the drive belt off and reving it up? Take clutches, brakes and diff out of equation. I drove my cart one time when I bought it then tore it apart and when I put it back together I put torque spring in the secondary clutch and it wouldnt let the engine rev to redline. I chased carb, crank seals, all stuff I replaced and electrical before I figured out it was the spring doing it. Maybe its not engine related.

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
I thought the same as cart around. Was it running ok and this started ? or did you get it this way ?
I had a 2PG doing this and the pulser coil wires were crossed. Someone had put electrical tape over the wires where they had butted them together and it almost whipped me. Even run my dog out of shop when I would try and crank it If by chance someone does cross the pulser wires blue to red and red to blue it will throw timing off like 40 degrees. |

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
when I got it , it would not start or run. After I put the seals, pulser in. It would run but slowly and just got worse. So I put new carb on. No change.
The driving clutch just barely pinches belt enough to turn the rear wheels now. I'm going back to shop tomorrow to try to set timing and maybe set float in carb, not knowing if they set it properly at factory. I will take a look at possibility of crossed pulser wires. |

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
You also need to look into the exhaust port to see if the Piston is in backwards. Move the Piston up and down. If you see square holes in the side of the Piston, it's in backwards.

Re: 90 3pg won't rev up
The engine compression will be good even with piston installed wrong. What is your compression ?
The last 2 pg I worked on which is similar to 3 pg had the piston installed wrong and also pulser wires were crossed. Like cart around said. Take a look and see if you can see the indention when looking through exhaust port of cylinder. |
