Default St350 question

Hi guys,

I picked up a 2007 ST350 today. Is the st350 a "workhorse"? Or is there something different on the "workhorse" model? It runs great, GPS clocked me 21mph down my driveway. The belt is wrong, and it smokes like a train but overall it's on good shape :)

There is a hose going from the intake to a vent in the panel below the shifter. What is this for? It makes an awful lot of noise, is it really necessary?

Also, does.skmeone on here have a picture of how the airbox is SUPPOSED to mount? Right now the end of it rests on the top of the primary clutch. I dont think that's right... I'm no expert but I did stay in a holiday inn last night...

The hose is purely for “fresh” or cool air intake. Mine did not come with one.

Here’s a pic of how my air filter looks

Thanks! Looks like my airbox is completely backwards. Sometimes it's hard to tell when you pick up a cheap cart with unknown history (like one of the exhaust flange bolts on the motor is about 3" long with about 10 or 15 washers on it lol)

Looking forward to undo-ing all the stuff the previous owner(s) did and making this thing right. Surprised how strong and fast it is, given the amount of smoke coming out of it. I could make my own rock concert! Oil definitely appears to be overfilled, so sucked some out and will see if that makes any difference. if so then it's a big score! if not, then I planned on rebuilding the engine when I got it anyway (I knew it smoked before I went and bought it).

Should be! Does anybody know if this is lifted? It's got 20x10x10 tires on it, and there looks like theres a ton of room for bigger. I dont really need anything bigger, just seems awfully tall for stock, but I cant seem to find any indication it's been lifted either. Rear leaf springs are on top of the axle, but there doesnt appear to be any signs they were ever mounted under the axle either. Front doesnt have drop spindles or anything I can see either...

Also the steering is pretty loose. The steering parts dont look like TXT parts and I can see where its wobbling, but cant seem to find a parts manual for it.

That is the older style steering. They switched to the current rack and pinion around 2001.5, but still made some models with your style after that. You may want to verify the year on your cart. 2007 seems like a long time past the steering redesign. The older style gets a little loose as it ages, making the cart wander a little at speed.

It's definitely a 2007 according to the sticker on the frame. Date code says F1307

I had a 2001 TXT with the 4 bolt steering column. So I was surprised this had the 3 bolt cumn, but after reading on it, appears that's pretty common for the workhorse

I’m surprised. That old steering is way outdated for 2007

STs came with a 4" lift, 20x9 tires on 10" wheels, some had 22x9x10s and they had the old style steering well past the TXTs.

Tire size has been changed on that one.

Good info, thanks! I thought it looked like it would fit 22 or 23" tires without doing anything.

Is the oil dipstick correct in this then? Or like other lifted carts does the oil dipstick read incorrectly? Not sure if they would compensate for that if it came lifted from the factory.
