Default 1988 Ezgo crank no start, not getting gas

Hey guys, I picked up a 1988 ezgo a couple weeks ago. It had been sitting outside for at least a year. The guy said it he thinks it needed new seals because it didn't have compression. I took it home and started getting in to it connecting loose wires and what not, hooked up a new battery and got it to crank. It would not pull gas so i cleaned the carb and the fuel pump, put it back together and yet still no gas so I assumed from previous research he was right and that I needed to change the seals. So after the B**** of replacing the seal behind the clutch and the one behind the flywheel, put everything back together and back to where I started. It cranks but no gas will get to the fuel pump. Any idea where to go from here? The pump looked great after the cleaning but I plan on tearing in to it again tomorrow unless there are other suggestions.

Is there vacuum getting to the pump? Sometimes you have to fill the line with gas before the pump starts working. (Prime it)

There has to be engine compression for the fuel pump to work. Have you checked that?

I don’t know a ton about gas engines but I just rebuilt a two stroke similar to yours.

The compression test shows 70. Where should i go from here? Like i said i already replaced the 2 lower seals.

I don’t think that’s enough compression to pump fuel and run correctly. They easiest way to fix that is to get a rebuild kit which includes a new cylinder. I replaced the piston, rings, cylinder, gaskets, crank seals, and wrist pin.

Maybe someone else will chime in here but 70 PSI sounds awfully low to me.

Btw- the lower crankshaft seals have nothing to do with compression. They keep vacuum from leaking down in the crankcase. The fuel pump won’t work if they’re bad, and if the engine backfires, it’s likely to blow them out. I’ve had it happen a lot until the carb and throttle is adjusted properly.

Check to make sure the hose going to the pulse line on the fuel pump is not cracked or clogged. You should be able to make it "pump" by mouth by blowing and sucking alternately quickly (like an Engine would alternate vacuum and pressure). You should hear it click.

You'll have to prime it and get fuel flowing to the carb. Sometimes this can take a while.

First thing I would do is squirt a little gas in the spark plug hole. Try and start and see if she'll at least sputter. If not then make sure spark is good. If it sputters then manually fill the carb and see if you can get it to run.

70psi is low. But... there is still hope. Squirt a little oil (about a tablespoon) into the spark plug hole and see if compression comes up. It will help the rings seal and may bring compression high enough to start.

This has been sitting for at least a year. If that's what the seller said then it's probably been st least 2 or 3 years. It is pretty common for motors that sit to be low on compression. But with a little oil and once they run for a few minutes youd be surprised how many of them come 40-50psi or more and are perfectly fine.

If it needs arebuild, couple hundred, bucks for new piston, jug, etc and you'll be fine. But I would try and make what you got work first.

So i got gas flowing and a wet sprk plug. Compression test still shows 70. And i only get one spark when i let off the gas... any other suggestions? Reallly dont wanna do a top end rebuild unless its last resort.

It's time for you to read this thread. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...3pg-carts.html

And, 70 PSI is terrible. I mean barely running if at all terrible.
