Push Pins for body Fastener?
I have a mile of wiring in my txt dash.
Want to easily remove the front cowl to access the wiring with minimal difficulty. Pop rivets ain't my first choice. Has anyone used blind hold push pin plastic rivets (with the pin) to attach the body to the cart? The things hold an ATV together if size is correct. Or screws with rubber well nuts? Well nuts can be a little fat and can be a problem to remove when age sets in. Aluminum pop rivets are a serious PITA (IMHO) to work with. I want easy access if possible. Thoughts and any other ideas welcomed. |

JRL i have good luck with these.
you have to be mindful of the orientation that you put them in. and i had to get some stainless screws but 20 of these are about 5 bucks https://www.homedepot.com/p/The-Hill...-202243046-_-N |

Re: Push Pins for body Fastener?
Do you think any of these would work?
https://www.mcmaster.com/removable-rivets Great idea to make it removable....you have gotten me thinking about it too. I have to replace the cowl on mine, it would be nice to leave it removable afterward. I guess we could use stainless nuts and bolts if not, if we can get to the backside. |

Re: Push Pins for body Fastener?
There is a threaded rivet thing out there that would be nice. I think they are called “nut certs” or something like that. Basically same concept as a regular pop river but it’s threaded so you can use whatever screw/bolt you want. Similar to the rubber inserts mentioned above but more permanent. I used them before to install a lexan windshield in my old race car and was very happy with the result.

They are called rivnuts. We use them in the airline world. I believe harbor freight carries a cheaper version.

Re: Push Pins for body Fastener?
All good info! The screw in plastic pins are common on scoots and automotive trim.
Rivnuts are a PITA to install correctly. Things will loosen up and have to be drilled out. They are great if the proper tools for install are used. Kawasaki and Suz are nuts about using them in aluminum frames. Mount coils and all sorts of crap. Even those had to be cut off and rubber well nuts installed. Not much better. I'm gonna see what areas are blind holes and maybe use plastic pins of some sort and screws and nuts where I can access the nuts. A 'blended' system if you will. Off to see what is available to install rivnuts. Definitely the neatest solution. Thanks for the input! |
