Default Help removing Marathon back wheel

I rebuilt a 3pg marathon that was flooded, and the last step is to change the tires. Three of them went fine, but the passenger side back tire won’t come off, due to the lug nuts spinning inside the drum.

I figured it was no big deal, so I removed the castle nut and tried to pull off the whole hub, but that doesn’t seem to work either. It pulled a little bit now it’s not moving. Any ideas on this?

I would think the brakes are froze to drum. Did you try hitting the back of tire with sledge hammer ?

I probably would light my cutting torch and cut those four lug nuts but I am sometimes a torch mechanic

I would then smack the outside of drum with big hammer. I forgot to mention I am also a hammer mechanic :)

I feel your pain as I messed with a rusted bolt yesterday way too long. Didn't want to light the torch because too many wires close but finally said the heck with it and did it. I only burned about half the wires lol

Your brakes are probably frozen to the drum. They create a ridge in there and tend to hang up when you try to remove the drum.

Worst case, use a big dead blow hammer and beat it off and replace the brake shoes if they get damaged. The shoes should be the only thing holding it on.

If hammering is not working and no access to a cutting torch,
maybe you can get one of these run off a large air compressor
or an electric version ?
Then just cut a vertical notch in each lug nut and then chisel
split them off the lugs. At some point you will still have to deal
with the stuck drum on the hub and shoes.

I had a stuck drum on a pickup truck that wouldn't come off
even after backing off the star adjuster and hammering for an
hour. Used my cutting wheel and went and bought another set
of brake drums.

Thanks for all the advice. The brakes aren’t stuck- the cart runs fine. They may be grooved in there though. I have already hammered it a lot. It might be time for a grinder now.

Maybe you should stop hitting it with your purse and use a big hammer

Put the nut back on LOOSE and drive the cart around slow. And it should loosen up and come off

Best advice I've heard !
Try to drive around with a loose wheel,
it's sure to fall off !

It's okay. You don't have to lie to me, I'm not your mother... I know you enjoy that 2 stroke way more than you will ever admit.
