Nidec Drive Systems???
Anyone ever heard of this company? Seeing a few 2017+ gas cars with the infamous thumper engine (13HP Kawasaki) and they have a much beefier starter generator than the earlier ones had (and i know because they go through brushes like crazy!) but I never saw this brand before--is it any better than the old Advanced versions? I'm concerned about the large 'made in China' writing on the label.
Found the company website online but nothing about golf cars, but tons if you're into PC fans, electric hydraulics and so on. Not much else out there. Starter Generator says "Nidec Drive Systems" and there's a few numbers for model, part number, serial number, and a large MADE IN CHINA which i never like to see. Brush covers are covered up by some sort of metallic strip (non-repairable?) Boss is curious because she also knows nothing about them and is concerned someone bought some cheap no-name starter to put on their cart. |

Re: Nidec Drive Systems???
I work for a Nidec owned company. They make electric motors from the one that makes your phone vibrate to 100hp elevator motors. I've seen some of their product from China, and seems top notch quality actually. I wouldn't worry about having some cheap "Chi-Chom" starter. One thing Nidec knows is motors (and I learned Textron and Club Car are some of their biggest customers).

Re: Nidec Drive Systems???
Glad someone responded. Seems to be only on the later model carts. I know the 13 horses had bad issues eating the brushes in the Advanced versions and seemed to work better with a Hitachi from an older TXT in my experience. Still, the way Made in China is in bold all caps concerns me. I've never seen quality control in a Chinese made product. It's all garbage usually. When things were Made in USA they lasted.
Also not a fan of being non repairable. First the Powerwise Qe then SC 48 now a nonrebuild starter generator you cant replace brushes on. The environment is really loving it I'm sure /s |

Re: Nidec Drive Systems???
I know nothing about nidec in particular, but deal with Chinese companies with work all the time. There is a lot of junk but there are conpanies that make top notch stuff in China with great quality control. It's all about cost.
Most of the "China junk" you see, well, its junk. But it's not saying that company doesnt have the ABILITY to make really nice stuff. It's usually the direction of the customer (example Nivel, Walmart, etc.) to copy/knock off someone else's expensive part, cut costs, make it cheap so they can sell a ton of them everywhere and flood the market type of thing. |

Re: Nidec Drive Systems???
I would say avoid anything that says "Made in China" it. Even if it means trading a modern golf car for a vintage one. They literally make junk these days. I have NEVER had any luck with ANYTHING made in China. No matter how expensive it is, it's always trash fodder in a year or two. Disposable.
If I owned a golf car today, it'd be a EZGO Marathon with resistors. |

https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/show...1955035&nojs=1 Nidec drive motor in the $$$ club car cru. Assembled in Mexico, not china. Clearly they have different factories around the world, china is probably for their lowest cost products. |

Re: Nidec Drive Systems???
I've only seen Nidec on a starter generator. has 'MADE IN CHINA' in all-caps, bold letters. Mostly seen on 2013-up gas TXTs. Brushes are sealed, no rubber caps.
I'm of the old school, only buys secondhand or 'Made in America with Pride' type. Anytime I see Made in China I know it's junk. |
