Default EZGO txt gas no power uphills

I have a97 EZGO txt runs ok on flat ground has no power uphill and I’m getting smoke in the air box any ideas I’m new at golf carts

This was my first thought as well.

I would check compression, adjust the valves, and then check compression again after valve adjustment. That way you have a baseline of where you started and where you're at after the adjustment. post the results and if the valve adjustment doesn't fix it, we can help guide from there.

Loss of power going up hills is normally the driven clutch ramp buttons worn out. Easy fix

I've never seen ramp buttons cause smoke in the airbox

Just kidding. definitely worth checking out, pretty good chance there's more than one thing wrong with it.
