Default Help with txt driven shaft removal

Hey guys. I have a 98 txt and I was driving it the other day and it started bucking, then stopped and just revs. Sounds like a gear is stripped and just barely touching enough to “click” as the motor runs. I got the driven clutch off, and I’ve read everything on the internet about the input shaft removal. I removed the seal that’s in there, but there is no c clip and it looks like just a bearing there. I tried the vice grip tap but it didn’t budge and I know there must be something holding it there. Any help is awesome. Thanks guys. I tried to post pics, but I have to be registered for 7 days apparently.

Guessing I would say the drivers side rear brake hub is stripped or your differential is not in good. These differentials are tough and normally don't tear up. I have had issues when installing a shorter belt with it being hard to shift

It is definitely coming from the center of the pumpkin right where the shaft meets whatever gears are in there. I’m just curious if I can take that shaft out alone, or if I have to take the whole rear out. It sounds like when we used to put cards in our spokes.

That card clicking sound is what it makes when not in gear good.
No it won't just come out. That is a major job not for the average person to take on to remove the differential out and apart. I still bet there is nothing wrong with it. Just not in gear. See if you can move the shift lever with your hand. Watch that muffler
Those twin cables were a pain to get right.
You got a lift kit on it ?

Thanks guys so much. Trig you were right on. It wasn’t shifted all the way. There is a rod on a spring loaded bracket that you can pull out and it clips in place. That got put in the other position and that rod was hitting the fins on the diff and not allowing the bracket to fully click in to either gear.

Trig123 you got a PayPal? You saved me a few bucks. Thanks again.

I do but you don't owe me anything. Glad I could help .

The thing that you said you can pull out and clip in place is how you tow this cart. Certain year models had that style . Bad design because sometime people would not get them back knuckled in good after they towed the cart.

I would use the Mickey Mantle baseball cards on my bike back in the 50's so I know well that sound . Wish I still had my bike and those baseball cards
