198Something Gasser Inspired Resto Mod - "Fiddy Dollas"
Hi all!
Here I'll be documenting my build of my 198X (ID Tag is missing so I don't know the exact year) E-Z-GO Marathon 2 stroke gas cart. I picked this sucker up for $50 to fix up and use to cruise around the lake where I live. I'm super pumped as seeing it and knowing it was a gas powered cart inspired me to build something different. So far I've been impressed with the following these carts have and the knowledge on this site! On to the build: Here's what it looked like when I picked it up. Missing Battery, air filter and housing, drive belt was off. It rolled well and all four tires held air so I figured what the heck. $50 it can't possibly hurt. |

I got the cart home and ordered some fresh parts I knew I'd want to replace no matter what.
I ordered an air filter, both belts, carburetor, fuel pump, solenoid, and voltage regulator. I picked up a battery on my way home and finally off work I started to dive in to figure out if this cart would have any major issues. I hooked up the battery and started testing switches. Rear lights came on and the solenoid clicks! After building new ground cables (I also bought new heavy gauge cable to replace all of the big wiring components) I hooked it all up with the fuel pump disconnected just to see what might happen. It's Got Some Life!! That's promising! |

For $50... that would be hard to pass up!
Looks pretty cool with the sun roof removed! |

Looks like the beginning of a fun project. Make sure you sand the frame all the way down to check for major rust. I made the mistake of not doing that and that's why I ended up just building me a frame from scratch.

Fun project. I worked on (rather fought with[emoji52]) a very similar cart for several months last year. It’s satisfying to get it running for sure!

Yes yes more pics, gotta dig the sunroof...I see someone has added an extra rusty storage box on the passenger side footwell. Are you sure there isn't an ID tag behind the left side of it? Can't tell in the pic if it would be visible or not

I'm 100% positive the ID tag is gone. I can see the color difference of the outline in the paint and the two little holes the rivets used to occupy. |

That's good news on the light rust. My frame was so rusty that it was falling off in chunks. I also had sand in places where there shouldn't have been sand. It looked like it had spent some time in the water hazards and sand traps at the golf course. LOL

I printed off and bound this invaluable manual, huge thanks to "cart around".
I also swapped out this plug for something that was similar in dimensions: Next I traced some wires, swapped out some parts, put an old belt back on and then: The Wheels Are Turning Then: IT RUNS!!! Then: First Drive Then: #racecart |
