Default Help on my brakes

I just got my first cart running again. I had to replace a piston and connecting rod. But after riding it a little bit I've noticed that the previous owner must've been riding the brakes a good bit. I have to push them to the floor when I try to make a sudden stop. I've been replacing brakes on my families cars and trucks for years so I wouldn't think there is too much difference but I just wanted to see if there is something unexpected I should be aware of before I start. Oh yea it's a 98 EZ-GO Workhorse. Pics are soon to be posted.

Oh for sure. I just wanted to know if there was something I should be aware of first. I'll get to work on it this afternoon and post some pics.

Lots of times it'll be a cable problem and not actually the brakes at all, given the age of your cart it could be the cause of the problem. When you remove the drum to inspect, if the pads are good then it'll be the cables starting to seize up.
If you do need to replace the pads and don't have the drums turned it takes a while to break them in. sometimes they seem even worst than before until the pads get seated.
